C&S Community Grocers
Plant. Grow. Harvest.

Plant. Grow. Harvest.

A healthy workplace provides opportunities for healthy behavior, includes opportunities for employees to interact socially, integrates features linked to environmental sustainability, incorporates education and the opportunity to contribute to a cause, and encourages staff to participate in physical activity. Employers can achieve these objectives through a productive and rewarding project: a workplace garden.

In 2011, C&S Wholesale Grocers established employee workplace organic gardens at its corporate headquarters in Keene, NH. Each garden location includes a Community Giving garden, the produce from which is donated to local hunger relief organizations. The Community Giving plots are tended by the employees participating in the workplace gardens. C&S partners with area organizations to provide garden education to their employees.

Through the Workplace Organic Gardens project, C&S provides employees and their families the opportunity to grow healthy, organic foods at the company-supported gardens. C&S sees the gardens as a way to empower employees to take an active role in improving their own health and well-being, and to work together to give back to the larger community.

The C&S Workplace Gardens project, and this website, was made possible with the insight and expertise of Antioch University New England (AUNE). The administration, staff, faculty and students of the University’s campus in Keene NH have provided valuable support. We are especially grateful for the commitment, passion and hands-on guidance from AUNE’s Environmental Studies Department, interns and the C&S Workplace Gardens Fellows.
