There is something poetic about a supply chain. The teamwork, insistence on precision, excellence of execution, accumulation of talents required for a job well done. A community united in common purpose. It may not be every person’s idea of a symphony in motion, but it generates great pride for this member of the C&S team.
That sense of pride grows even greater when our employees use their unique talents and skills to create sustainable change in community. The C&S team that serves over 6,500 customer locations annually is the very same set of people who help wage the fight to eradicate hunger, invest hours of service to transform local non-profits, distribute grants to strengthen communities, and seek new ways to be Earth-friendly.
Our commitment to corporate social responsibility is rooted in nearly 100 years of shared values and employee leadership. Our traditions have evolved into progressive strategies that reflect our obligation to corporate citizenship. As we strengthen these efforts, we are informed by those who know us best – the men and women of C&S, our customers and community partners. Their wisdom and experience makes our impact possible, their continued challenge motivates our effort.
I need only to visit our warehouses for such inspiration. There, I witness a "melting pot" of employees from many backgrounds, cultures and countries. Some are new but many others have worked up through the ranks. Quite a few are working alongside family members. They remind me that C&S has a unique privilege to foster opportunity through creating quality jobs, providing health care, and building a strong sense of community. In many ways, this remains the foundation of our company.
But, as they share stories of their American dream and the challenges they face, I know that our broader mission is even more critical. To strengthen the communities where we live and work. To support initiatives that advance our common humanity and address our fundamental needs – food for families, books for children, compassion for those in need. This can affect our employees, our customers and vendors and transform C&S in untold ways.
I am proud that our company is strong and that our work as a corporate citizen makes a difference. I invite you to learn about our commitment to community and to share your perspective.
