C&S employees give back during holiday season

Keene, NH - During this holiday season, C&S Wholesale Grocers is pleased to announce several recent initiatives that demonstrate the company's values to strengthen communities where it operates. "These initiatives showcase the commitment of C&S employees to give back," said Rick Cohen, Chairman and CEO of C&S. "We can all contribute something, whether as individuals or as a corporate citizen, in the form of time, money or something tangible," he said.

Make a Difference Day

On the single largest national "day of caring," more than 400 C&S employees rolled up their sleeves and tackled 20 community service projects from coast-to-coast. As volunteers, they prepared and served meals at a homeless shelter for families, decorated food collection bins, painted walls at a food bank, stocked shelves at a community kitchen and more.

Holiday Meals for Neighbors

The company's annual donation of turkeys to food banks provided more than 100,000 meals for the Feeding America network. A recent article in the Wall Street Journal reported demand at food banks is up about 25% across the country compared to one year ago, including a surge in first-time clients. In December, C&S employees will each be given a turkey with the option to donate it to their closest local food bank.

Hunger Leadership Conference

C&S co-sponsored Share Our Strength's Conference of Leaders, a national training and convening of activists who tackle the problem of childhood hunger. The conference attracted 350 participants.

United Way

As one of 125 companies designated as a National Corporate Leader by the United Way of America, the C&S workplace campaign exceeded all previous records. Employee pledges and the corporate match will support local United Way chapters and will advance goals for the common good in the areas of education, health and income.

Holiday Outreach

Ranging from collecting toys for Toys for Tots, to providing gifts for families served by local shelters or other social service agencies, C&S employees are continuing a tradition of sharing with others during the holidays.
