C&S Wholesale Grocers, Inc. Spreads Kindness and Good Cheer at the Holidays

"it is wonderful to see the C&S family go the extra mile to offer help." - Rick Cohen, CEO

Keene, NH - C&S Wholesale Grocers, Inc., teamed with its associates this holiday season to help families and children nationwide via donations of food and gifts.

"Our associates are generous, with many of them donating gifts, warm winter clothes and food to help those in our communities who are less fortunate," said Rick Cohen, CEO and Chairman. "Especially during the holidays, it is wonderful to see the C&S family go the extra mile to offer help."

One of the initiatives at C&S' Corporate Headquarters in Keene, New Hampshire was the assistance offered to 16 families. All departments at C&S pulled together to donate new toys, clothes, or household items. The families had been identified by human services agencies including the Salvation Army and a local women's crisis center. One family received new bicycles. C&S locations in Hatfield, Massachusetts offered similar help and gifts to 6 families.

In addition:

  • Thousands of children received brand new toys that were donated by C&S locations in Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York, California, Pennsylvania and South Carolina. In some places the toys were given to Toys for Tots. In Sacramento, CA, the toys were given to an agency that works with homeless families and in Harrisburg, PA to children being treated for cancer at Penn State Hershey Medical Center. In Mauldin, SC toys were given to orphaned or abandoned children at Miracle Hill Children's Home.
  • Three hundred servicemen and women serving in Iraq in the 6th Marines H&S Company received care packages from C&S customer services and chain sales associates. The boxes were filled with gifts, personal care items and the hope for a safe return home.
  • Leading the way to provide food assistance in southern Vermont where it has a distribution center, C&S pledged 13 tractor trailers full of food to Project Feed the Thousands. This effort reaches individuals in 50 towns, some of whom are facing the decision to pay for heat or food.
  • Homeless children who live on a beach in Hawaii received special sweets handed out by associates there.
  • 17,500 families were helped by C&S retail affiliates Southern Family Markets and Piggly Wiggly Stores via the "Family to Family" program, which invited customers to purchase a $5 grocery bag for donation to the local food bank. Each bag contained staple foods like macaroni and cheese, saltines, rice, pasta and sauce, soup, and canned vegetables.
