C&S Charity Golf Outing Raises $1.1 Million

24th Annual Golf Event Provides Important Support in a Tough Economy

Keene, N.H. - The customers and vendors of C&S Wholesale Grocers showed their generosity again this year at the company's 24th annual Charity Golf Outing, which was held August 4-5 on courses in Vermont and Massachusetts. The event raised $1.1 million in grants to organizations that focus on pediatric cancer and childhood hunger.

Despite the tough economy, the event was a great success. Dedicated to the memory of Ron Wright, former president of C&S who lost his battle with cancer earlier in the year, the event had more golfers (890) than the previous year, joined by 300 sponsors. Rick Cohen, Chairman and CEO of C&S, expressed his thanks to the participants for making the event successful and also said "Ron Wright was a guiding force behind our Golf Outing and it meant so much to him to give back to kids. He'd be proud of what we've accomplished together this year." Cohen welcomed golfers and guests with a message of thanks and his thoughts on why the C&S Charity Golf Outing is inspiring.

C&S employees and several retirees organized the tournament, held at the Mount Snow and Haystack courses in Vermont and at the Crumpin-Fox course in Massachusetts.

Guests at the post-golf dinner heard moving speeches from representatives of The Children's Hospital at Dartmouth (pediatric oncology unit), The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp, and the Jimmy Fund/Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

Masters of Ceremonies included members of the C&S senior management team: Richard Wyckoff, Executive Vice President, Sales & Marketing and Chief Customer Officer; Bob Palmer, EVP, Procurement and Merchandising; Bruce Johnson, EVP, Human Resources; and Scott Charlton, EVP, Operations.

About the C&S Charity Golf Outing
The C&S Charity Golf Outing began in 1985 as a fundraiser for several local charities and has grown to be a large two-day tournament with almost 900 golfers on three courses. During the past 24 years, the tournament has raised funds to support charity, primarily focusing on childhood cancer, and recently, the addition of initiatives to address childhood hunger.
