C&S 25th Annual Charity Golf Outing Most Successful Ever

Helping in the fight against childhood cancer and hunger

Keene, NH - For 25 years the C&S Wholesale Grocers' Charity Golf Outing, known as "Tee Up for KidsTM," has raised millions of dollars to benefit organizations helping children who are battling cancer and, recently, organizations with campaigns addressing childhood hunger and nutrition. This year, the event raised $1.34 million for five highly-respected nonprofit organizations.

• Children's Hospital at Dartmouth (Lebanon, N.H.): $400,000 for care and treatment of children in the pediatric oncology unit.

• The Jimmy Fund/Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (Boston, Mass.): $170,000 for pediatric cancer research.

• The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp (Ashford, Conn.): $100,000 for camperships for children with cancer.

• Feeding America (Chicago, Ill.): $350,000 for the national BackPack Program which discreetly provides nutritious, child-friendly food for kids to eat when other resources are not available, such as weekends and during school vacations.

• Share Our Strength (Washington, D.C.): $320,000 for the 2010 Conference of Leaders to train childhood hunger activists, Hunger in America's Classrooms - Teachers' Report and Innovation Fund awards.

Rick Cohen, C&S Chairman and CEO, expressed his thanks at a dinner presentation by saying "We're so grateful for the commitment our business partners and our employees have made on behalf of children, families and communities. Our silver anniversary event has been a great success."

Considered one of the largest charity golf tournaments in northern New England with approximately 900 golfers, the event took place on August 3 and 4 at several premier golf courses in Vermont and Massachusetts. After playing 18 holes, colleagues from the supermarket and food industry gathered for dinner and heard moving presentations from representatives of the nonprofit organizations benefitting from the Outing.
